Can You Draw My Monster?
with special visitors from the Islamic Development Bank in Jeddah
We are delighted and honored by your visit. We hope you all enjoyed your time in our classroom...Thank you so much!
This video shows our drawings after we read our friends' descriptions of their own monsters.
The Project Idea
Draw a monster.
Write a description of it.
Post your description on this page.
Put your name and location under your description.
Students from other schools will try to draw your monster using your description.
Post your drawings under the description.
When the drawings have been posted, post the original drawings to compare!
Let's have some fun and become expert describers!!!
"On Friday morning, Sunset Elementary School teacher Cheryl Arnett unveils to her second-grade students the results of a recent project. Each student drew a monster then wrote a detailed explanation of the monster’s appearance. Students in Rawya Shatila’s class in Beirut, Lebanon, then drew monsters based on the descriptions and sent them back to Arnett’s class. “I almost fainted when I saw some of those,” Arnett said of the similarity of the drawings."

Flat Stanley Project
Flat Stanley is a timeless children's book. Stanley becomes a half inch thick after a bulletin board accidentally falls on him. He is a creative boy and finds all kinds of advantages to being flat: sliding under doors, traveling by envelope and being a kite. The famous Flat Stanley is taking a trip around the world.
After listening to the story, we made our own Flat Stanley project. He'll help us learn about other places and discover the world together. We'll send our Stanley to South Africa and then to Colorado and share his adventures with our families and friends. We'll also find the places that he visits on a map and discuss what we found out about these countries.

"HELLO", The Magic Word
"Get up on your feet and to everyone you meet say: hello
When you meet somebody new, the first thing you should do is say hello
Say it high..say it low…say it fast…say it slow
Cause when you wanna make a new friend
Give a great big smile and say hi, hello,
my name is:____________
And before you know it, you’ll have a brand new pal."
The beginning of the school year is a perfect time to introduce yourself and make new friends. It's a good way to start...just say a simple and magic word, "HELLO''. It warms the heart!

Snow Days in Beryzovo, Russia
Letters to our friends at Strekoza English Language School in Beryzovo, Russia
the link to our project on Strekoza English Language School website"I'm sending you 4 letters from my students. I have told them that some of kids "from abroad" might want to reply them. It could be our start for this school year. It would be great if your kids could reply in the same way so we would form permanent e-pals pairs. About the kids: Anatoly is a boy, others are girls. Marsha, the youngest, is my daughter. They can then proceed to writing via the e-pals mail system, but now it is easier for them to hand-write. Yours could reply in any way they like. Yesterday night it started to snow for the first time this autumn (well, it did snow a couple of times before but not a lot and the snow melted immediately) - and we now have over a foot of snow! I'm sending you some photos I have just made - of my own kids and a bird feeder we quickly made with some lard and rowan berries - just hang those up on a clothes line J . I thought your kids might be interested to see the snow! Have a good weekend."
Ekaterina
Mrs. Ekaterina Vertkova, thanks a lot for the letters and the beautiful snow pictures. How amazing to have snow! You are really very lucky. Looking at the snow pictures arose so many questions in the classroom...How is it that there is snow in Russia...fall in Colorado...and still so hot in Lebanon??? I think we're jealous of everyone's snow days! Hoping to get our share of snow this year and enjoy a white winter.
